NEWS FROM OUR PRIVATE KINGDOM
Dear Amakhosi friends and supporters...
As mid-winter comes and goes, we are once again reminded about the beauty of the African bush and the changes it goes through during this time of year. This winter, Amakhosi has surprisingly seen quite a lot of rainfall, allowing the vegetation to still carry some green with it. Guests can look forward to enjoying the contrasts of the landscape while still being able to marvel with great game viewing opportunities.
Further good news is that the lodge has re-opened, after its re-thatching and is looking as majestic as ever. With our recent re-opening, we will be offering some great specials for the month of July which can be seen in the ‘Bush Special’ section in this newsletter.
Amakhosi has also had some interesting sightings over the past few weeks. One such incident being between a hippo and a baboon, as well as our cubs being taught some hunting skills by the lionesses. More info in our Rangers Journal.
It’s always a pleasure to share AmaKhosi news with you and we welcome your ideas and feedback. Always in touch with warm regards…

BUSH BULLETIN
With the winter chill upon us, it is vital to dress warmly on the morning and afternoon game-drive safaris, however during the day it is still lovely and guests are still able to enjoy the African sun. On the 19th June we had 21mm of rain which is quite strange for this time of the year, so the bush is still gorgeously green and sightings of our big 5 are very good. Ibandla Camp has also been very busy this season due to the main lodge being closed.
BUSH JOURNAL
It’s that time of the year again when most people want to snuggle up in a woolly blanket and sip a hot cup of soup while trying to ease the chill out of their bones. Then there are us at Amakhosi, who can’t wait to get out into the cold and see what the reserve has to offer. Winter time is of course the best time of the year to see animals as the bush thins out and the trees drop their leaves, leaving wonderful open spaces to view the ever illusive inhabitants of the reserve.
News on our Wetlands Pride is that all nine cubs are growing up rapidly and getting very strong. The older male cubs are now showing prominent mane hair and the female cubs are honing in on their hunting skills. So all-in-all, they are doing exceptionally well!
